WELLINGTON Rangers consolidated their position at the top of the Hereford Times Hereford-shire League Premier Division on goal difference after a 4-2 home victory over lowly Sutton.

The reigning champions made a bright start and opened the scoring after 20 minutes when teenage striker Cory Hyde latched onto a through ball and slipped it past the Sutton goalkeeper.

To their credit, a depleted Sutton, who were forced to include manager Tony Skyrme, fought back well and capped a good spell of pressure with a deserved equaliser from the experienced Kevin Knapper and the visitors then created several chances to take the lead.

Hyde restored Welling-ton's advantage with his second goal but Sutton hit back strongly and achieved parity before the interval when Richard Allman converted a penalty kick.

After the break, Welling-ton regained their advantage when Danny Amies scored a superb individual goal and then Eddie Wells sealed the home side's victory with a long-range effort in the closing stages.

Woofferton remain in second place, behind Wellington, following a convincing 4-1 away win over struggling Weston.

Woofferton took advantage of the strong breeze in the first half and sweeper Mark Desbo-rough put the visitors in front with a scoring 25-yard drive.

Confident after his first effort, Desborough then repeated the trick on the half-hour mark and, again, rifled a shot into the top corner.

Desborough, the visiting skipper, was also involved in Woofferton's third goal when he drove a corner-kick to the near post where Jamie Marsh flicked the ball home.

Weston pressurised the visiting defence at the start of the second period without seriously testing Woofferton goalkeeper Dave Cooper and the visitors made the game safe with a fourth goal when Duncan Edwards crossed for Kevin Phasey to head home.

Weston scored a late consolation when Cooper failed to hold a shot from Matty Roberts and substitute Dan Morris was on hand to tap in.

A much-changed Ewyas Harold moved up to third place after a hard-fought 2-1 win away victory over a competitive Fownhope side.

Both teams had several opportunities to open the scoring before Harold gained the upper hand when Ben Corner headed the ball down to Steve Radziejowski whose shot was blocked and fell to Ryan Hirons who found the net with a neat finish.

Fownhope equalised just before the break through Lee Higgins but the visitors regained the lead early in the second half, Matt Smalley heading home a corner from Radziejowski.

A late goal from Sean Aston salvaged a point for Ross United Services in an exciting 2-2 draw with mid-table visitors West-fields.

Ross made a flying start and went in front after six minutes when a shot from Carl Roberts bobbled into the net.

Westfields responded strongly and drew level before the interval with a thunderous shot by Steve Slade.

John Williams put Westfields ahead, and the Hereford-based outfit looked capable of holding on for victory until determined work by Craig Powell set up the scoring chance for Aston.

A strong first-half showing from Hinton paved the way for an impressive 4-2 home win over higher-placed Leominster.

A brace from Chris Hyde and a penalty from Steve Lamb put the home side into a commanding 3-0 lead at the interval.

Leominster fought back strongly after half-time, reducing arrears through Steve Evans and Adie Bennett, before Anthony Robbins sealed Hinton's victory with his side's fourth goal.
