Kington Town 3 Smethwick Sikh Hunters 1

KINGTON manager Mick Panniers came out of retirement to help his depleted team come from behind to earn a well deserved West Midlands League Premier Division victory.

Kington started well but were rocked back in the 22nd minute when they lost possession in midfield and a visiting striker raced clear to score.

After several attempts were foiled by gritty Smethwick defending, Kington equalised just before the break when striker Mark Davis slid the ball home when the visiting goalkeeper could only parry a fierce drive from Martin Powell.

Chris King gave Kington the lead in the first minute of the second half with a superb goal, cutting in from the right to beat a defender before hitting the roof of the net with a rising drive.

Kington kept control of the game and sealed victory when Davis grabbed a second goal, almost a replica of the first, when the goalkeeper again failed to hold a powerful strike from Powell.

Kington produced some of their best form of the season to book an away meeting with Sedgley White Lions in the second round of the West Midlands League Cup.

The visitors took a two-goal lead inside 20 minutes in a tie which had twice been postponed with a couple of incisive strikes, but Kington reduced the deficit through Danny Hill just before the interval.

Home striker Davis set up an exciting finish when he levelled with a crisp strike with 19 minutes to play, and Hill grabbed a winner in the closing minutes.
