Heath Hayes 1 Wellington 1
WELLINGTON were left ruing several missed chances as Heath Hayes scored a late equaliser to deny them points which would have lifted them into the top eight of the West Midlands League Premier Division.
The visitors started brightly and were given a boost in the eighth minute when Keith Jones stole in front of the home goalkeeper to glance home a long clearance from Wellington goalkeeper Scott Hodgetts.
Suitably inspired, they could well have been five goals clear at the break but for poor finishing and a disputed decision.
Midfielder John Kelly hit the bar, Andy Price had a shot blocked on the line, and Ross McMillan blasted over the top from close range.
However, the key decision was a late call from a linesman when Kenny Styles appeared to beat the off-side trap and fire home.
Just when it looked as if Wellington would claim a useful away victory, Heath Hayes grabbed a late equaliser when the visitors failed to clear a goalmouth melee and a looped header deceived Hodgetts.
