Ledbury firefighters put aside their equipment and resorted to a simple stick to remove a trapped terrier from a hollow tree.
Firefighters were alerted after the the dog's owners heard Masey barking from inside the tree at Paunceford Court, Munsley.
Sub-officer Terry Phillips said he was considering using a chainsaw to get the dog out, but decided on a less drastic approach and cut himself a stick.
The dog grabbed the stick with its teeth and could then be pulled from the tree to safety.
The whole operation took 45 minutes from the time the fire engine arrived on the scene at 10pm and lights had to be set up illuminate the scene.
