Herefordshire Council meets today (Friday) to approve a large rise in Council Tax.
The authority is faced with two options from which to choose.
The first is to fund a budget of just over £169 million through a 17 per cent increase in Council Tax.
That would mean an increase of £140 on this year's average Band D bill to £947.78.
The second option is to use council reserves to cushion the blow. This means a Council Tax increase of 14.5 per cent, or a Band D bill of £924.88.
Herefordshire Council's demand is the largest element of the total bill. Added to it are precepts from West Mercia Police, town or parish councils and, in some areas, the Malvern Hills Conservators.
