A Ledbury fire crew was called out to the Hereford Road after a fuel tank fell off a coach, spilling 250 litres of diesel.
Firefighters were on the scene, near the Verzons Hotel, for two hours after being alerted at 5.22pm on Sunday.
Because of the risk of cars skidding on the slick, the oil was covered with absorbent granules.
Sub-officer Terry Phillips said none of the fuel had run away into drains or entered a nearby watercourse.
