HEREFORD fire fighters welcomed the postponement of this week's strikes as ACAS stepped in to help in the negotiation process between union and employers.

With both fire-fighters and the public safe in the knowledge it would be business as usual for the next few days leading fire-fighter Nigel Stroud welcomed the move.

He said: "It is quite a relief, it is very stressful to go out those doors on the picket line. It is not something we want to do.

"We are very pleased the two sides are talking. The last two weeks have been very distressing.

"We think this is a step in the right direction. But we are prepared to go back out on strike if needs be."
