The 22-year-old has established himself as United's first-choice goalkeeper following a string of outstanding displays last season. The former Hull City goalkeeper shot to national prominence in front of the BBC Match of the Day Live cameras in November with a match-winning performance in the thrilling FA Cup first-round clash against Wrexham. Baker, who joined United on a free transfer in August 2000, started last season as first choice following Scott Cooksey's unfortunate injury, and he grasped the opportunity with both hands.
