Hereford United chief Graham Turner is urging his high-fliers to batten down the hatches after watching a 'video nasty' of Saturday's defeat against play-off rivals Morecambe.

The Edgar Street boss wants the whole team to tighten up defensively for Tuesday's scheduled Nationwide Conference trip to troubled Farnborough Town, whose manager and chairman Graham Westley resigned this week just days after taking the Hampshire outfit to Arsenal in the fourth round of the FA Cup. He took over at Stevenage Borough on Wednesday.

Turner will be investigating whether sixth-placed United have grounds to appeal against the sending off of Danny Williams for violent conduct at Morecambe.

After reliving, on video tape, the disappointment of Hereford's 3-1 away defeat, which ended their seven-match unbeaten league run, Turner said: "We had a great start to the match and I thought we were harshly done-by in having Ben Smith's effort disallowed in the second half. When the ball was played into the box Ben was definitely not offside.

"At 2-1 I thought we would definitely get something out of the match and we created some good chances to equalise. A 3-1 defeat sounds like a good beating, but I thought that we played reasonably well overall. But I think the whole team needs to tighten up defensively."

Turner said United would need to speak to the FA to find out whether the club had justification in appealing against Williams' dismissal.

"On the tape you can see that the player is stood on Danny's ankle and, although, Danny flicks out with his foot, he doesn't catch the player. I didn't think it justified a red card," said Turner.

United are without a match this weekend and the trip to Farnborough will take place providing Farnborough do not draw with Telford United in the FA Trophy on Saturday as the replay date is Tuesday.

Hereford have no new injury worries, with Rob Purdie expected to recover from a foot injury which kept him out of Saturday's game, while right-back Matt Clarke is due at Lilleshall next week for further rehabilitation following knee surgery.

With central defender Andy Tretton serving a one-match suspension, club captain Ian Wright is set to make his first start since November 23.
