Hereford United's play-off credentials should be given a serious test this Saturday against a Morecambe side also vying for a top-five finish in the Nationwide Conference.

The fifth-placed Bulls travel to Christie Park on the back of an outstanding league run which has yielded 19 points out of a possible 21 from their last seven Conference outings.

Managed by former Hereford favourite Jimmy Harvey, seventh-placed Morecambe have lost just once on their own ground in the league this season and boast the third best home record in the Conference.

Although the Shrimps recorded a 2-1 win over Hereford at Edgar Street in August, the United squad should be buoyant, having scored 17 goals and conceded only one since their unbeaten Conference run started with a 4-0 drubbing of Barnet at Edgar Street on November 30.

In-form Hereford welcome back leading marksman Steve Guinan and midfielder Danny Williams for the trip to Lancashire after they both missed Saturday's 3-0 win over Gravesend & Northfleet through suspension.

Hereford boss Graham Turner said of Morecambe: "They are always a good side and have a lot of experience. They like to pass the ball around but will also give us space in which to play.

"But the most important thing is our own form. It's very promising at the moment - we are playing some good football and our discipline has been excellent. We showed in the win at Chester that we can be solid and match the clubs in the top group."

Hereford's rise in the table has attracted scouts from Football League clubs, with Bristol Rovers believed to be keeping a watchful eye on 22-year-old winger Paul Parry.

The Pirates' boss Ray Graydon and his assistant John Still have been at Edgar Street for Hereford's last two matches, although there has been no transfer bid for a United player.

"We have had a number of clubs watching us in recent weeks, some from a high level of football. But so far you can only hazard a guess who they are looking at," said Turner.

"There have been some very consistent performances and I have to say that we have got five or six young players who are destined to go on to better things. But we do not want to lose anyone at the moment."

Turner has also been impressed by the attitude of Brentford's 24-year-old defender Jay Lovett, who has joined Hereford on a month's loan and made his debut in the win over Gravesend.

Meanwhile, Hereford's directors have been investigating a complaint from Forest Green Rovers about the behaviour of some supporters towards manager Colin Addison, although they have not been able to trace the culprits.

Former Hereford boss Addison said that he received personal abuse from a small group of United supporters when he brought his Gloucestershire club to Edgar Street at the end of December.
