Hereford United marksman John Grant apologised to his team-mates after last night's goal-less draw with high-flying Yeovil Town at Edgar Street in the Nationwide Conference.

The former Crewe striker is yet to open his account for fifth-placed Hereford and admitted that he was disappointed at not scoring against the West Country outfit.

In fact, Grant wasted United's most clear-cut opportunity two minutes before the break after seizing on a mistake by Yeovil defender Anthony Tonkin.

The young frontman raced clear of the wrong-footed defender but flashed his shot wide with just Glovers goalkeeper Chris Weale to beat.

He said: "The defence has been doing really well, keeping clean sheets, but I don't feel that I am doing my job properly unless I am scoring goals."

A draw was a fair result between two sides who contributed to an exciting first-half but appeared to run out of steam after the interval.

Yeovil, who included former United striker Gavin Willi-ams, dominated the opening 25 minutes, winning four corners in the first 10 minutes.

The visitors were thwarted by last-ditch clearances from Ian Wright and Tony James.

A resurgent United dominated the final 25 minutes of the first period and Wright rose well but put his header wide.

Both sides created few chances in a scrappy second- half, although United goalkeeper Matt Baker made a fine reaction save to keep out Terry Skiverton's effort.
