TOP harness racers from Herefordshire will trot out to raise funds for terminally ill children on Sunday.

The Three Counties Harness Race in aid of a new Acorns children's hospice is expected to attract more than 100 entrants to Hanley Swan.

Organisers Dave and Kath Shellam and Ivor and Pauline Stoke from the Three Counties Harness Racing Club were inspired to help the charity after reading about the appeal.

"We held the race for the first time last year and it was a very successful day. We raised £2,000 and are confident of doing even better this time. Last year the race was voted the best meet in the Wales and West region and second best nationally. This year we want it to be the best in the UK," said Dave.

The open final winner will scoop a £1,000 top prize and £250 is on offer to the winner of each heat.

Directions will be sign posted along the B4209. To book a stall or offer sponsorship, contact Dave Shellam on 01905 830071.
