MADAM, The key issues the consultants on the Edgar Street Grid will address are almost identical to those of the Two Rivers development in Staines, where I lived until recently.
We ended up with a pedestrianised High Street, two narrow lanes leading to a supermarket and five "sheds" including an office suppliers, two carpet warehouses, a holiday shop and a huge car park which acted as a prime site for late-night muggings.
If the consultants took somewhere like Poundbury in Dorset, which challenges the current conventions on planning and development and mixes offices, shops, residential and community buildings along the lines advocated by the Prince of Wales, Hereford might actually have a pleasant, human-scale area which people actually enjoyed visiting, rather than one they avoided, as happened in Staines.
