PEOPLE in the Westfaling Street area of Hereford are seeking more help to curb traffic in their part of the city.
They say there is too much and it travels too fast.
More than 200 have signed a petition organised by Councillors David Short and Mary Bew and supported by local resident Harold Morgan.
Residents have always complained about the use of Westfaling Street as a short cut backwards and forwards across the city.
In recent years the council introduced a ban on lorries over seven tons and a pedestrian crossing was installed.
But in the new petition they say they want the speed limit reduced to 20mph, upgrading the pedestrian crossing to a pelican crossing and the introduction of speed cameras.
The aim was to cut back on traffic and take enforcement action on those who drove too fast or used the route illegally.
Councillor Short said there was a need to concentrate on the traffic problems in the whole area.
Herefordshire Council's environmental health department would consider the petition and come up with some positive schemes.
He hoped these would be would be ready for consultation very soon.
In a separate move Mr Morgan is seeking help from Hereford MP Paul Keetch to get signs erected in prominent places reminding drivers they could not use Westfaling Street as a short cut and that heavy lorries were prohibited.
