PLANS to move the South Wye police station in Hereford to the old Vortex site have been submitted to Herefordshire Council.
The application, made by the West Mercia Constabulary, proposes to build a new single- storey police post on land at Goodrich Grove in Newton Farm. The building has been designed to include state-of-the-art offices for police, including community support officers, beat officers, two sergeants and an inspector.
Chief Superintendent Guy Rutter, Commander of Herefordshire Division said: "We are delighted to have this opportunity to improve the visibility of the South Wye police station, putting a new facility for local officers into the heart of the community in this part of the city."
The development will be funded by a £500,000 grant from the Home Office's Premises Improvement Fund. This money will also be used to develop a joint agency interview suite at the current South Wye station in Ross Road, which will provide accommodation for the Crown Prosecution Service.
