A Hereford singer who was known throughout many diverse social circles has died, aged 77.

Roy Kennett, the man who sang 'Hereford Fayre' and Red 'Uns' as well as being a prominent member of Much Birch choir for 30 years, died peacefully at Hereford County Hospital on May 1.

Roy will also be remembered for his involvement with the historical group, Herefordshire Lore. He became chairman in 1991 and took the organisation's publication 'Age to Age' from 6,000 a year to 18,000 copies as well as vastly improving the quality of the journal.

Fellow Herefordshire Lore member Bill Laws said: "He will be fondly remembered for his extensive and active role in promoting the group. His talks in particular were something to be enjoyed."

Roy was Hereford born and bred and worked for Bradley's - The Clothiers for 49 years before settling down to retire in his Tupsley home.

Roy was a dedicated family man who celebrated his golden wedding with his wife Phyllis last year at Much Birch Parish Church. He also leaves behind his two children, Paul and Rose, and three grandchildren, Diane, Jack and Tom.
