BROMYARD'S British number one Janet McMorran reached Sunday's women's main draw singles final of the Slovakia Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships in Bratislava, a Champion-ship Series 2 event on the NEC Tour.

Second seed McMorran opened her account at the clay-court event by having to come from behind to beat fellow Briton Kim Blake 3-6, 6-2, 6-0.

This was McMorran's second win over Blake in the space of a week after she had beaten the Buckinghamshire player in the semi-finals of the National Championships in Gloucester.

Victory again in Bratislava earned Mc-Morran a quarter-final against Poland's Agnie-szka Bartczak and she again had to go three sets before sealing a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 win.

McMorran's semi-final opponent was French third seed Florence Gravellier, and this time she managed to finish the match in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-3.

However, having reached the final against top seeded Dutch player Sonja Peters, a sudden bout of ill health forced McMorran to withdraw from the final, handing Peters a walkover.

But her performance was enough to move her one place up the World rankings to number eight.

Hereford's Matthew Faucher was also playing in Slovakia, but, despite performing well, he went down 7-6, 6-4 to Dutchman Ronald Vink in his opening match in the men's main draw singles.

As a first round casualty, Faucher then went through to the consolation singles, but again fell to defeat at the hands of Frenchman Stephane Goudou.

Faucher had slightly better fortune in the men's second draw doubles, for which he joined forces with fellow Briton Tony Knappett. Top seeds Faucher and Knappett beat the Austrian-Swiss pairing of Kurt Blaha and Carlo Tresch 6-0, 6-2 in their opening match and then defeated Slovakian duo David Chabrecek and Marek Gergely 6-0, 5-7, 6-4 to book a place in the semi-finals.

However. the British pair were then beaten 6-2, 6-2 by the Czech Republic's Jiri Fiala and Dalibor Potucek.

Both McMorran and Faucher are now taking part in this week's Czech Open in Prostejov, another Championship Series 2 clay-court event that started yesterday.
