THE win of veteran Dovetto in the Ladies' Open race at the North Ledbury Hunt fixture on Sunday saw another chapter in the famous 'Dove' story' when the 14-year-old gave Vicky Price her first racing success at the Cold Harbour track near Leominster.

Confidently ridden by 20-year-old Vicky, Dovetto was always travelling well in the five-runner field. Over the final three fences it was clear the race lay between Do It Once and Angela Rucker and Dovetto and, once Price asked her mount to quicken at the final fence, the race was over as they ran out easy two-length winners.

Daughter of a proud Ullingswick trainer Richard Price, who trained Flakey Dove to Champion Hurdle success, Vicky confirmed the story of the race.

"From half-way down the back straight I was pretty happy as I knew I had them covered. This is my first race success but I did ride a bit in Somerset last season, getting some experience," she said.

Trainer Andrew Price could now run the winner at the Golden Valley meeting at Bredwardine.

Another lady jockey scoring a first success was Sarah Davies aboard Flying Pennant in the Confined race. They seized the initiative when leader Cadougold blundered and unseated his rider Mark Wall at the final fence and she kept her mount going well to hold off the challenging duo of Persona Pride and Professor Cool on the run- in.

Adrian Wintle is having his best-ever season and he scored his 18th winner with a hard-fought success in the Restricted Open aboard Aztec Rule for Eastnor-based trainer Nicky Sheppard.

It seemed as though Aztec Rule was booked for second place as leader The Lord Roberts held a two- length advantage at the final fence but he sprawled on landing, giving Wintle another chance and he forced his mount up on the line to score by neck.
