A RECORD-breaking last-wicket stand of 116 swept Leominster 2nd to an astonishing one-wicket away win over Burghill & Tillington 2nd in the Flint & Cook Marches League Division 4.

Leominster appeared to be heading towards a heavy defeat when, chasing Burghill's competitive 227-7, they slumped to 17-5 before recovering to reach 115-9.

Last-man Adam Burke then joined Nick Hamer at the crease and the pair, incredibly, transformed the game with the highest last-wicket partnership in the history of the Marches League.

Hamer struck an unbeaten 50, while Burke clouted 76 not out, including four sixes, from just 46 balls to take Leominster to a remarkable victory in the 43rd over.

Previously, Leominster's Tom Jones, making his club debut, snapped up a hat-trick in his second spell as he finished with 4-40.

Reigning Division 1 champions Goodrich opened their campaign with a 31-run away win over newly-promoted Llandrindod Wells.

Despite the efforts of Brendan Davies, the cousin of Australian pace ace Brett Lee who snapped up 4-44, Goodrich managed to post 160-9, with Tony Beddard making 49 and Tom Parry, 31.

Veteran left-arm spinner Mike Evans then took 5-42 and was backed up by Don Wilmot (2-20) in restricting the Mid Wales club to 129-9.

In Division 2, Marden's Craig Pratten bagged a hat-trick in his side's 10-wicket home win over Shobdon. Pratten's stint of 5-24 helped to dismiss the visitors for 94 and then Marden's openers, Andy Bridges (44 not out) and James Bryon (41 not out), cruised to the target.

lBartestree & Lugwar-dine knocked higher-graded Goodrich out of the League Cup in the first round with a five-wicket win on Sunday.
