LUCTONIANS Rugby Club chairman Dave Thomas was able to commiserate with the players after their defeat to lower-graded Aston Old Edwardians in the North Midlands Cup final at Stourbridge on Sunday.
"Three weeks ago we had a successful season with teams through to three cup finals and a play-off place for national rugby against Macclesfield after finishing Midlands 1 runners-up," he said.
"Now we don't have a lot to show for it and I'm disappointed for the players. But, after the build-up for the Macclesfield game and the defeat that followed, this appeared to be one game too many."
Aston beat Luctonians 24-12 in the final and Thomas commented: "I didn't recognise our team from their lack-lustre performance. We didn't take Aston lightly - there was no complacency. But we couldn't get up for the final push.
"The players and coaching staff got us into these good positions and it was a pity we didn't collect any honours."
