MADAM, On reading the letter from Mr Yarwood, I wish to thank him for the information he imparted to us in respect of the effect aircraft have on fish.

It does help me unravel a mystery as to what may have happened to two of our prize golden orfe. On a warm summer's day last year one was found dead at the side of the pool and about three hours later the other was found in the same spot. We put it down to the heat.

Now we have to consider they may have been subversive fish on a suicide mission against the SAS or maybe they were taken out? We will never know. It is something to be discussed for some time - all we know is they will be missed.

A point missed in my letter was, if you have money or position you might be compensated for noise created by the military. Collectively we have no money and position but the wealth of democracy. So why not use it. The point made by Mr Yarwood about my lack of respect for the members of our forces is incorrect and if noise can be seen to save one life or prevent an injury no-one will shout louder or longer than me.

All anti-terrorist surveillance is generally done very quietly, so if they are so close we need the helicopter to save us maybe we all should get religious and start praying (fanatically).

I would also like to thank those responsible for the helicopter for a very pleasant weekend of May 10-11. Thank you.

R A WATKINS,

St James Road, Hereford.
