A NEW car park could be built in Bromyard after councillors decided to investigate a land sale in the town.

A plot near the HSBC bank, in Pump Street, has been put on the market with a guide price of £135,000 to £150,000.

At a full meeting on Monday, Bromyard and Winslow Town Council vowed to look into the possible purchase of the land to be used as a car park.

They also decided to look at other potential sites, including land near the Post Office in Church Street and an area near the library in Sherford Street.

The issue of car parking has dogged Bromyard in recent years. Councillors have become concerned that potential visitors to the town are going elsewhere because they cannot find anywhere to park.

The council also decided that assistant town clerk Kay Lilley should lead inquiries into the land acquisition as town clerk Mike Cresswell lives near the site and there could be a conflict of interest.
