BULL Allstars put the disappointment of losing out in The Soccer Site Malvern Football League championship race behind them to lift the league's Senior Cup played at Ledbury Town's ground on Sunday.

Watched by a large crowd and in a game exciting and close enough to grace any final, Bull Allstars won 3-2 but not before they were put under pressure by cup holders Club AC 30 to ensure a nail biting finish to the game.

The early stages saw Bull Allstars have the better of the game with the advantage of the slope.

They took the lead in the 15th minute when Jamie James ran through to lob the ball over the advancing keeper and net his 101st goal of the season. The same player had a good chance in the 23rd minute but his shot was cleared across the face of the goal.

Club AC 30 were then indebted to keeper Andy Hall who made three great saves from the same attack, the first being a shot by Neil Jones. The holders got more into the game and equalised in the 27th minute when the ball bobbled about on the edge of the Bull Allstars' area before Jason Payton-Smith lashed it home past a static defence.

Club AC 30 almost took the lead in the 38th minute when a cross cum shot hit Bull Allstars keeper Glynn Morris on the back of the shoulder before rebounding to safety.

Jamie James thought he had regained the lead for Bull Allstars when following a corner he rose unopposed to power in a header which appeared bound for the top corner of the net, only to see keeper Andy Hall somehow tip the ball over the bar.

It was end to end play with Jason Payton Smith racing through the Bull Allstars defence to force a good save from Glynn Morris and when the rebound came back to him he could only watch as his second shot scraped the post.

The second half started with a bang as Bull Allstars took the lead almost immediately when Mark Toman was on hand to net from close range. The same player had a chance to increase the lead in the 55th minute but shot narrowly wide. It became 3-1 in the 62nd minute when Jamie Gladwin finished of a good Bull Allstars move.

In the 72nd minute it appeared the game could be over when Bull Allstars Dave Zakotti sent in a shot from close range but somehow Andy Hall got a hand to the ball and turned it past the post. In the 77th minute a shot from Jamie James hit the AC 30 bar and rebounded to safety. Club AC 30, led by the tireless Jason Payton Smith, took the game to Bull Allstars in the last 10 minutes. A free kick on the right saw Jason Payton Smith stoop low to head the ball home to make it 3-2.

With the pressure on Jason Payton Smith sank to his knees in disbelief when, in the 87th minute, he again powered in another header which appeared destined for the bottom corner of the net only to see keeper Glyn Morris pull off a stupendous one-handed save to tip the ball around the post. Despite further pressure from Club AC 30 the final whistle went to give the Trophy to Bull Allstars.

Both clubs were to be commended not only for their efforts but also for their sportsmanship during the game and after.

The man of the match was Club AC 30's Jason Payton Smith.
