FOR the first time in five years Colwall will not be featuring in the later stages of the National Village Knock Out.

CHADDESLEY CORBETT V COLWALL

Chaddesley progress to the next stage having disposed of their visitors by a significant margin.

Put into bat, Colwall's start was, as has happened before in this fixture, dire. Tom Wolfendale was caught second ball and opening partner Dave Powell fell in the second over. Ten minutes later and Colwall were reeling at 10-4.

It took the experience of Eddie Hill and the youthful vigour of Josh Hornyold to bring the total up to anything near respectability.

Lacking the spin of David Sutton or James Wagstaff, Colwall were relying on an all seam attack, and as well as Hornyold and Hill bowled, Chaddesley's opener Riches was hardly troubled in unbeaten knock of 83.

Chaddesley cruised home in 24 overs with only Sutton's dismissal of Bodey any consolation to the visitors who of course will now be, "concentrating on the league".

COLWALL v WOOTTON BASSETT

WOOTTON Bassett captain Steve Twine won the toss and asked Colwall to bat on an easy paced wicket.

Openers Manjid and David Powell got off to a flying start putting on 55 for the first wicket until the latter played a loose shot outside off stump to be removed for 22 in the tenth over.

Tom Wolfendale and Manjid also followed quickly but Manjid made a stylish 39 and looked well set before off spinner Stevens removed him. Steve Ferguson and Tim Riley tried to consolidate matters. The dismissal of Ferguson for 11 signalled a middle order collapse. Within two overs Lee Hankins and Martin Oliver had been removed with consecutive deliveries as Colwall went from 86-3 to 90-6.

At this point Colwall started to claw their way back into the match with Josh Hornyold joining Riley at the crease. They proceeded to add a vital 50 for the seventh wicket with Hornyold impressing with a fine 31. Soon after, Riley followed Hornyold back to the pavilion after compiling a gritty 38. Andy Sutton 10no and David Sutton with an unbeaten 15 steered Colwall to a total of 187-8 in their 50 overs.

In reply Wootton Bassett made a solid start before rain interrupted with the visitors on 28-0 after nine overs. The interval swung matters in their favour by reducing the required target to 161 in 43 overs.

On resumption, despite an aggressive spell of bowling from Andy Sutton, which removed Chattel and Clarke in consecutive balls, Wootton seemed to be on course to win at 105-3 with 15 overs left.

A smart stumping from Ferguson helped to account for Twine, whilst Stuart Bailey followed up by dismissing Lancaster. Manjid returned to the attack to account for the key wicket of Leech for 48. The resistance of the visitors then crumbled as Manjid 3-21 and David Sutton 4-40 ripped through the lower order to dismiss Wootton for 139 in the 39th over.

This left Colwall with a win of 21 runs on the reduced target.
