HEREFORD swimmer Jono Andrews landed three gold medals and a silver medal at the North Eastern District Swim-ming Champion-ships at Ponds Forge in Sheff-ield.

Competing for the City of Leeds, Andrews completed a gruelling weekend of distance swimming, setting new personal best times in his best-ever return of district results.

Andrews won the 1,500m freestyle, finishing in under 16 minutes for the first time with a superb swim but he was pipped to the gold medal in the 200m event by his friend and club team-mate, Martin Webster.

He completed his hat-trick, swimming a strong 800m freestyle to win gold in a national qualifying time of 8m 24s and he promptly clinched the 400m freestyle title in a new personal best time of 4m 03s.

Andrews, the Welsh National Short Course champion in both 200m and 400m freestyle, is now looking forward to the Scottish Nationals in June and both the long and short course English Nationals later in the summer for which he has already achieved qualifying times.
