DAVID Park took on and beat the world's number one Tiger Woods when he produced a sparkling closing round of 64 to finish in a share of 12th position in the Deutsche Bank-SAP Open in Hamburg.
Starting a shot behind Woods, Park's amazing round of 10 pars and eight birdies catapulted him up the field for a 13-under-par total of 275 (71, 70, 70, 64) with a three-shot advantage over Woods.
Ireland's Padraig Harrington won the tournament when he beat Denmark's Thomas Bjorn in a play-off for the title at the first extra hole after they finished level on 19-under-par.
More important for Herefordshire's Park was that his pay cheque of £30,000 lifted him nine places in the Volvo Order of Merit to 27th, and took his season's earnings to £139,000, more than enough to secure his full playing rights for next season.
This week he will be looking to continue his successful run when he tees up in the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth.
