EWYAS Harold clinched runners-up spot to Wellington Rangers in the Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier Division on goal difference after a 4-1 away victory over Ross United Services in their final match of the campaign.

Harold pipped Wooff-erton to second place after finishing level on points with their rivals. They achieved a two-goal better goal-difference record than Woofferton, who had claimed the runners-up spot the previous season.

Harold had the better of the early exchanges against Ross but fell behind after eight minutes when Bobby Hatch lashed the ball home from just inside the area.

Within two minutes, however, Harold drew level when Chris Dzioba turned in a shot from Matt Smalley which appeared to be drifting wide.

Ross continued to press and should have regained the lead after they were awarded a penalty but Hatch put his spot-kick wide.

Harold, well prompted by Mark Holder and Tommy Taylor, worked hard to create chances and went close to taking the lead on several occasions.

Dzioba headed over a Matt Tabb free-kick and another free-kick from Smalley sent Andrew Bridgewater streaking clear but his cross was cut out by home goalkeeper Andrew James.

With the interval approaching Dzioba used his strength to hold off a defender and set up Tommy Taylor but his shot sailed wide.

However, on the stroke of half-time, Harold's prolonged pressure finally told when Dzioba snapped up his second goal from a corner.

The home side fought back in the second half and Hatch, a constant threat throughout, was first denied by Harold goalkeeper Dave Rodgers, while he then rifled a shot over the bar from a good position.

Harold replied strongly and Steve Radziejowski scored the visitors' third goal when he was on hand to apply the finishing touch following excellent approach play by Holder.

Radziejowski then put the result beyond doubt with Harold's fourth goal after he collected a pass from Taylor and coolly slipped the ball past the advancing goalkeeper.

And Radziejowski could have extended the lead in the dying minutes when he broke free from the home defence but was foiled by the Ross goalkeeper.
