Kington Town 2 Bustleholme 0

KINGTON made up for the disappointment of finishing runners-up to local rivals Westfields in the West Midlands League by claiming the prestigious Premier Division Cup.

The Herefordshire club extended their tremendous unbeaten run to 32 league and cup games and, although reduced to 10 players for most of the second-half after midfielder Matt Morris was dismissed for a second bookable offence, they were in control throughout.

The early play was confined to midfield in a very quiet start, but Kington gradually won the battle and went ahead on the half-hour when Bustleholme failed to clear a corner, the ball falling to defender Dave Howes who made no mistake from close range.

Although suffering a setback with the dismissal of Morris, Kington held their grip on the game so effectively that goalkeeper Carl Rose was not tested.

A depleted Kington effectively won the trophy with a second goal 15 minutes after the break when Chris King swung in a perfectly-weighted free-kick from the right for Alex Hunt to head home.

With the match won, Kington got behind the ball and frustrated any late attempts by Bustleholme to get back into the game.
