AS county politicians and councillors argue over the future of the Edgar Street redevelopment programme, a group of Hereford children have put forward some ideas of their own.

Holmer Junior School pupils were split into four groups, each coming up with grand plans of what should be done.

Some said the football ground should go, others said the cattle market should stay, but all agreed that many new services should be brought into the area.

Top of their list of priorities were a skate park, a paint ball centre and a swimming pool. Other ideas included an adult gym, a nursery, a picnic area, a sweet shop and a caf.

One of the most imaginative suggestions, proposed to keep the cattle market on the site, but build a shopping centre on a second floor above the animals. A sliding door would allow the animals and farm vehicles to come and go beneath the shops.

Richard Evans, account director of PPS, the company responsible for handling public consultation on the development, had a good look at all the children's ideas, which could eventually be incorporated into the final plans.
