A 53-YEAR-OLD nurse from Eardisley, who assaulted vulnerable elderly patients has been removed from the professional register, following a hearing in London.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council's (NMC) Professional Conduct Committee found Siew Kim Franks guilty of three charges of misconduct, relating to her time as the proprietor of the Lemore Manor Nursing home in Eardisley.

The committee heard that Mrs Franks slapped a patient in 1991 or 1992 and in 1997, slapped another patient at the home.

She was also convicted in 1999 at the Herefordshire Petty Sessional Division of assaulting two other patients by beating, for which she was given 120 hours community service for each patient.

Having been removed from the register, she is banned from practising in the UK.

The NMC's Director of Professional Conduct, Liz McAnulty, said: "Mrs Franks' behaviour is abhorrent and completely unacceptable.

"Regardless of her level of responsibility, it is a nurse's duty to ensure patients are treated with respect and dignity at all times, and Mrs Franks has shown through her actions that she is incapable of fulfilling this role.

"She has been removed from the national register to protect the public."
