EISTEDDFOD -- The Longtown Eisteddfod was somewhat down in attendance this year but it attracted a great variety of performances of a high standard. Conductors, adjudicators, presidents and accompanists carried out their duties with their usual skills. First and second prizes were presented in each appropriate class and all children who competed were awarded a consolation prize. The adult competitors entered the eisteddfod with enthusiasm and provided wide-ranging entries. The 'own choice' pieces also provided much interest and humour. The shield was won by Naomi Prosser of Michaelchurch. The Peggy Watkins Cup was awarded to Christina Allaway from Kington and the John Farr Cup was presented to Ted Mitson of Hereford. The eisteddfod, a truly traditional event, again proved to be a worthwhile and enjoyable event, again proved to be a worthwhile and enjoyable gathering.
GATHERING -- Another annual gathering in Longtown will be the Open Air Festival of Praise with the hymn singing led again by the Hereford Salvation Army Band, held at 3pm on Sunday July 6 at 3pm in the grounds of Longtown Primary School. All welcome.
