The Ledbury Area Cycle Forum has welcomed improvements to the town trail.

Since November, Herefordshire Council has brought the trail back to its original width of two metres. The whole 1.5-mile length has been resurfaced and ruts have been removed.

Worn access ramps have been resurfaced with tarmac and dividing barriers at various stages have been set for width and separation, to allow bikes and pedestrians to pass through more easily.

Barriers have also been set a cycle length back from roads along the route, so that cyclists can get off roads safety on to the trail, before having to negotiate a barrier.

'Cyclists Dismount' signs have been replaced with 'Give Way' markings, in keeping with the legal requirement at traffic junctions.

LACF chairman Steve Glennie-Smith said: "This will familiarise youngsters with signs in general use on the public highway."

The LACF is still concerned that some of the dropped kerb sections on the trail are not wide enough to allow safe access from the road, principally at the Bromyard end by the railway bridge.

The group is currently in negotiations with Herefordshire Council to get this matter attended to.
