A Ledbury pensioner is warning others to beware of bogus callers, after she fell victim to a distraction burglar.

The victim, who has had trouble sleeping since and asked not to be named, said: "Will I ever learn not to trust everybody? I feel so very angry."

The theft took place off The Homend on Wednesday around 2.45pm, when a man in his 20s asked to get a stray ball from the garden.

His victim said: "It never occurred to me to question what a man in his 20s would be doing, playing with a ball in the afternoon."

The man disappeared round the back of the house, followed by the suspicious pensioner.

She entered the dining room to find the intruder had fled, taking three bags, including a Swedish-made Fjellraven rucksack with him.

This bag contained foreign language dictionaries, as well as the pensioner's purse, credit cards, cheque books, keys, driving licence, engagements book, AA road card, library card, rail card and National Trust membership card.

The burglar spoke in a possible foreign accent. He had fair to ginger hair, cut into a short fringe. He was wearing "guady" trousers and a top, probably blue.
