THE oldest newspaper in Wales is getting a new Hereford-educated editor.
Former Whitecross School pupil David Hardy, currently assistant editor of the Gloucestershire Echo, Cheltenham, has been appointed editor of the Carmarthen Journal.
He will replace Alan Osborn who is retiring on October 3, after 47 years' service with the Northcliffe Newspapers Group.
David is 41 years old and is married with two daughters. He has been in Cheltenham since 1990. Before that he worked for the Bristol Evening Post, Stroud News & Journal and the Dursley Gazette.
As well as Whitecross, David is a former pupil of Lord Scudamore primary school and did his A-level studies at Hereford Sixth Form College. His mother and father Alan and Irene Hardy still live in the city.
David said: "It's a wonderful opportunity to edit an excellent weekly paper in a beautiful part of the world. I'm looking forward to the challenge enormously."
