RACING driver Owen Jenkins is looking forward to competing in the Legends Championship next season after making a winning debut at a Donington Park winter series meeting.

The 18-year-old from Hay-on-Wye hired a Legends car - a scaled down race vehicle - from Racetec for the Donington meeting and made a sensational impact after a career in karting.

Lawrence Davey looked unbeatable after winning the first two heats to celebrate his 19th birthday, but it was Jenkins who won the final race - although Davey was overall winner - at an average speed of 79.63 mph.

Davey fought from 12th place to take the lead, while Jenkins carved his way through the field from 18th on the grid. The Legends rookie had performed well in the heat but was not expected to impact the way he did on the final.

He was third by the end of lap five and then went second on the penultimate lap. Davey led by a couple of lengths but the Welshman caught and passed him on straight, only for Davey to take over again at the chicane.

Then it was all down to the flag and Jenkins claimed a sensational last-gasp win.

Jenkins will now take up the Legends Championship after karting since the age of 10 and competing at 125cc level in the national championships over the past two seasons.
