ANOTHER successful windsurfing year ended last month for the Solven brothers from Storridge, near Malvern.

The boys have raced in a long and arduous National Series of 10 major events, from Marazion to Pwllheli to Bridlington.

Guy, aged 21, finished seventh overall and second Espoir (under 22) in the National rankings, and Harry, 17, finished tenth overall and first Youth in the rankings.

The boys have also enjoyed international success. Harry was eighth overall and second Junior in the Formula Youth World Champion-ships in Garda in July and both brothers competed in the Formula Experience European Champion-ships in Portugal in August. Harry got to the podium with a third in his class (Youth) and Guy was fourth Espoir.

Harry also raced in the National Slalom Championship and came eighth overall and first Youth. Guy had to miss this Slalom Series because he was into his finals at University, where he achieved a BA Hons 2.1.

The boys are very grateful to their sponsors Boardwise, Offshore Sports, Bic Sport and Kreative Sail Graphics and would like to thank them for all their help and support.

The end of the season outdoors it may be, but the winter holds the new and exciting prospect of indoor windsurfing. The UK Windsurfing Association will be organising the first indoor windsurfing championships at the Schroders Inter-national Boatshow at ExCel 8-18 January 2004.

The championships will see top men, women and youth contestants from the UK's windsurfing elite including Guy and Harry, who have qualified to race in the Slalom event.

The Schroders London International Boat Show will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in January as it moves to Europe's largest Exhibition centre, located in the heart of London's Dockland.

The championships will be held in a spectacular, purpose-built watersports pool (30x70 metres) with fans generating 30 knots of wind and seating 1,700 people.

This show is going to be a 'must see' for all fans of windsurfing and will draw people from all over the World. The competition will get five hours TV coverage on Sky Sports and terrestrial channels, and a number of websites, plus newspaper coverage.

Guy and Harry are hoping for some support from local firms for their indoor campaign and also for their 2004 racing campaign. They have a huge advertising space in the form of numerous large sails and will get coverage reaching many millions of homes.

Interested firms can get in touch with the boys through Sports Editor Greg Edwards at the Malvern Gazette and Ledbury Reporter.
