Colwall continued their good form in the league with a 3-2 win against third-placed team Shipton Oliffe at Ledbury Leisure Centre on Saturday.

COLWALL 3, SHIPTON OLIFFE 2

Shipton Oliffe took the lead early in the first half before Coral Handley converted a cross from Gemma Richards to level the score. The teams looked evenly matched for the rest of the second half, and the score remained 1-1 at half time.

Shipton Oliffe took the lead again in the second half. A tactical change saw Jill Miles moved to the right half position, and this soon paid dividends, with Colwall being a awarded a short corner following a period of sustained pressure. Coral Handley scored a second with a good strike past the goalkeeper to make the score 2-2. Jill Miles continued her good work on the right and linked well with Gemma Richards, who was playing her first match at centre midfield, and Lucy Halligan moving through from her position as sweeper.

Colwall started to play some attractive hockey before earning another short corner, from which Lucy Halligan scored to give Colwall the lead. In the closing stages of the game, Colwall retained possession well to restrict Shipton's opportunities to go for an equaliser.

Colwall play their final league match before the Christmas break against league leaders Hereford at Hereford Leisure centre at 9.30 am tomorrow (Saturday).

The club is looking for new players to join them in the New Year - anyone interested should contact Coral Handley on 01684 593453 or by e-mail at greystones@orange.net.
