AFTER more than 300 years, the famous 'Roaring Meg' cannon is returning to the scene of its greatest triumph - Goodrich Castle. The cannon played a decisive role in defeating the Royalists holding out at Goodrich Castle during the Civil War between Charles I's followers and Cromwell's Parliamentarians. This was the mortar which, firing the largest cannon balls in the world, penetrated the castle walls and demolished part of the 'Ladies Tower', forcing the Royalists to surrender!
