Hereford United have moved to boost their squad ahead of Saturday's visit by Tamworth with director of football Graham Turner reaching agreement to take central defender Anwar Uddin on loan from Bristol Rovers for a month.

The 22-year-old, 6ft 2in Uddin began his career at West Ham United and also spent some time at Sheffield Wednesday before joining Rovers where he has made 19 Football League appearances, scoring one goal.

The United boss has played down transfer talk surrounding winger Paul Parry who has been linked with First Division Cardiff City.

Parry played for the Ninian Park club's reserve side at Derby County last week and was due to turn out again yesterday (Wednesday) in another reserve team fixture against Bournemouth.

"Cardiff asked if they could have a look at Paul and, in accordance with his contract, we've let him go for a few days," said Turner. "But we certainly don't want to lose him at this stage and we don't need to sell him for financial reasons."

United will be bidding for their second double of the campaign on Saturday after winning 3-1 at The Lamb on the opening day of the season with two goals from Ben Smith and one from Steve Guinan, who has been receiving treatment for a shin injury this week.

The Tamworth line-up has undergone a few changes since that very hot day back in August as the Staffordshire side have struggled to come to terms with life in the Conference.

Last week they increased their potential fire-power with the signing of veteran Paul Barnes from Doncaster Rovers.

The 36-year-old won the Conference's Golden Boot award last season and scored against United in both games for the Belle Vue club.

United's games at Exeter, in the Conference on New Year's Day and in the FA Trophy on January 10, have both been made all-ticket for Hereford fans.

Tickets for the Conference game are available from the club offices in Blackfriars Street, but no postal applications can be accepted due to the Christmas post.

On police advice, both matches will now kick-off at 1pm.
