Bromyard'S swimming pool campaigners remain defiant, despite something of a setback last month.

It was thought their hopes suffered a blow when Herefordshire Council's cabinet said a swimming pool for Leominster was the only one planned in the county for the foreseeable future.

But chairman of the Bromyard & District Community Swimming Pool Trust, Francis Jarman, said: "What the Trustees require is outline planning permission to use land about five minutes walk from both of the largest schools, in the Hardwick area of Bromyard.

"We require a planning decision from the officers of Herefordshire Council, not finance. We feel that once Bromyard people know we have got the land, they will rise to the occasion."

Mr Jarman said the Bromyard & District Community Swimming Pool Trust was formed earlier this year to break away from the mantle of councillors.

"There is a need for a swimming pool in the Bromyard area and it could also help boost the tourist industry," he added.
