SPIKE Milton is a lumberjack and he's okay - at least he is now he has been awarded the title of British Lumberjack Champion.

The standing block, underhand chop and 100 ft pole climbing proved to be no contest for Spike, who has also found time to take part in the British piano smashing competition to raise cash for children with leukaemia.

The 36-year-old who lives near Bromyard won four of the seven British titles and was runner-up in the other three classifying him as British champion.

He also smashed the European record in Switzerland for the standing block and underhand chop.

Growing up in the forestry business, Spike has travelled all over the world including spending six years in New Zealand and he has won several Canadian championships.

He first became interested in competing in the unusual sport 10 years ago when he and some friends formed a lumberjack team in Devon as a mark of respect for a late colleague.

Now Spike, who works as a Wayleaves Advisor for UK Power Construction, is the chairman of the British Lumberjack Sports Association and regularly visits shows and exhibitions to show off his skills.
