Police are warning Ledbury people to beware of bogus callers after two men posing as sewerage workers tricked their way into an elderly woman's home.
The incident happened at around 3.30pm on Thursday, December 4, at a house in Elmsdale Road.
The men, in their 30s and wearing dark clothing, told the owner they were "working on the sewers down the road" and asked if they could come in and switch off her water supply.
The pensioner let the pair in but became suspicious and they left. It was later found that they had carried out a search of an upstairs bedroom, although nothing was taken.
PC Mark Herbert said householders should insist on seeing proper identification before unexpected callers are allowed in.
He would like to hear from anyone saw the two men acting suspiciously in Elmsdale Road at around the time of the incident.
Anyone with information should phone 08457 444888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
