Ledbury artist Wendy Gibson was awarded a silver medal for her painting of hellebores, which was displayed at the Royal Horticultural Society Flower Show in London last week.

There were just 20 artists from around the UK exhibiting at the show, which took place in Vincent Square.

Mrs Gibson, of New Street, said: "You have to submit work to a panel beforehand just to make sure you are up to standard."

The artist, who has had many of her flower paintings professionally produced as cards, added: "The standard of work is always very high in such shows but the standard this time was very high indeed, with six gold medals being awarded."

Mrs Gibson's own medal-winning submission was of Helleborus Orientalis, the ashwood selected spotted hybrid. The work, which was based on much research and preliminary sketches, was completed in graphite and watercolours.
