Police have travelled to Greece to take a statement from a drugs counsellor who saw Rachel Whitear on the day she died.

Rachel's mother, Pauline Holcroft, who lives in Ledbury, said it was part of the ongoing investigation into the fate of her daughter, who was found dead in an Exmouth flat in May 2000 from a suspected heroin overdose.

The 21-year-old's death formed the basis of a hard-hitting educational video for schools, Rachel's Story, which had its first showing at John Masefield High School. Since then, questions have been asked as to whether the level of heroin found in her body would have been sufficient to cause death.

A new investigation into the circumstances of Rachel's death is being carried out by the Wiltshire Constabulary, under the supervision of the Police Complaints Authority.

Mrs Holcroft said the drugs counsellor who was interviewed in Greece had told the family earlier how, on the day of Rachel's death, she was wearing "a pretty dress" and had seemed very positive.
