Colwall Primary School has been given an award for its environmentally-friendly projects.

The school has been awarded silver eco status by Environmental Campaigns (ENCAMS), the charity behind the Keep Britain Tidy campaign.

The school has already gained the bronze award for its achievements in areas including litter, waste management, school grounds and healthy living.

Teacher and eco-school co-ordinator Pam Pitt said: "We have a committee made up of two pupils from each year group at the school, which comes up with action plans. Recently, we've concentrated on waste minimalisation, such as paper recycling.

"We've also tried to save energy by putting up posters reminding children to close doors and not to leave lights on and we have installed push-taps in the toilets to save water."

The school is now working towards the top award in the scheme, the Green Flag.

"There's lots to do but the children are very keen and enthusiastic about the project. They really enjoy it," said Mrs Pitt.
