Castle Vale KH 3 Westfields 5 (aet)

LONE striker Derek Craddock bagged a brace in the first period of extra time to complete a fine hat-trick and earn Westfields a place in the first round proper of the FA Vase after an exciting second qualifying round tie.

Without regular strikers Paul Burton and Sam Bowen, Westfields tried a different formation with Craddock up front by himself.

The quick home forwards posed a few early problems and the Midland Combination hosts took an 18th-minute lead when Andre Heins outpaced defenders Alex Winstone and Dave Howes to slide the ball past Jon Pugh.

Westfields looked a different team after manager Sean Edwards' half-time talk. Within minutes of the restart they were back on terms when Scott Jackson powered home a superb header from Matt Beale's corner and then took the lead when Craddock raced clear to score.

A quickly-taken free-kick saw Castle Vale equalise, but, in a ding-dong battle, Westfields edged ahead with a second goal from Jackson, only for the hosts to force the tie into extra-time with a superb 25-yard drive from Christian Crisp in the 88th minute.

But Craddock killed off the home chances with two goals in the first period of extra time with an exquisite lob and then a crashing drive.
