Westfields 1 Carlton Town 2

WESTFIELDS wasted a dream start to make their exit from the FA Cup at the first qualifying round stage at allpay.park.

The city side took the lead after just six minutes through Sam Bowen but conceded an equaliser 16 minutes later.

Scott Jackson was sent off after 52 minutes and the Nottinghamshire side pressed home their advantage to net the winner 13 minutes later.

Westfields, who had won 2-1 at Corby Town in the previous round, were quickly into their stride and Bowen opened the scoring when he got free on the left, rounded the goalkeeper and slid the ball into the net from a narrow angle.

Carlton, who had never won an FA Cup tie before beating Congleton in the preliminary round this season, were quickly back on level terms when a quickly-taken free-kick was passed to Dean Gent and he hammered a rising shot from 20 yards past Jon Pugh in the home goal.

Bowen was unlucky to see a shot cleared off the line after Wayne Hoskins headed down a Matt Beale corner and the former Forest Green striker again went close with a curling effort following a cross from Mark Hibbard.

After the break, Chris King rattled the Carlton crossbar before Jackson was shown the red card after tangling with Gent.

The visitors then grabbed the winner when the Westfields defence failed to stop a left-wing cross and Anthony Howells nipped in to side-foot the ball home.

Carlton will visit Moor Green in the second qualifying round.
