Bromyard Town gave a gritty performance to knock out United Counties League rivals Newark Town in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase.
NEWARK TOWN 0, BROMYARD TOWN 1
The tie remained deadlocked until the 65th minute when Bromyard's Richard Fassindger crossed into the home penalty area where Ted Bayliss gave the keeper no chance with a fierce volley.
After Bayliss had scored, however, Newark pushed men forward in a desperate bid to get on terms but Bromyard keeper Adrian Hopkins was equal to their efforts making four excellent saves.
In the second qualifying round Bromyard will travel to take on Lincolnshire opponents Bourne on Saturday, September 25 and will be aiming to reach the first round proper for the second successive season.
