AFTER five games the leading sides are beginning to gather and we are a bit disappointed that we don't have three more points in the bag.

We should have won at Crawley and should have got a point against Stevenage.

The level of performance that we produced on Saturday was disappointing although there was a degree of physical intimidation that the referee should have clamped down on.

He allowed one particularly dangerous challenge on Danny Williams to go unpunished and that led to his problems later on when he ended up booking five Stevenage players to our none.

But Stevenage would have come off the field thinking that five bookings were well worth the three points.

We failed to pass the ball and while we're not always going to put on outstanding displays it's particularly disappointing to have lost the game to such a late goal.

A goalless draw would not have been a bad result under the circumstances so there was a bit of despair about the place on Saturday.

We trained Sunday morning and the players were aware of how disappointing the performance was but you could sense the determination to put things right at Northwich.

It's a question, however, of getting the balance right in what you emphasise in team talks.

Everyone was determined to pass the ball well but for the first 15 minutes we forgot to defend and conceded three very good chances during that time when Jonathan Gould probably kept us in the game.

After that, though, the football started to flow and in the end it was a comfortable win to the extent that we probably had fewer chances when we put nine past Dagenham & Redbridge.

I think it showed a lot of character in the team to come back with a performance like that but, in particular, I would pick out Danny Williams who epitomised everything about what we have at the club at the moment.

He had a very nasty blow on Saturday which resulted in him having two cuts on the side of his head from an opponent's studs. He needed four stitches in each of the cuts and two or three inches one way and it could have been really serious.

He was shaken by it all and had to come off but by Sunday morning there was the determination to play at Northwich. He not only played but was outstanding when it would have been easy for him to have ducked out.
