Westfields FC were formed in November 1966 when a group of lads from the Westfields area of Hereford used to bike down to Widemarsh Common to play their friendly games against the likes of Danish Bacon, Oxford Arms, Post Office and College Rovers.

Now, 37 years on, Westfields have still kept going, elevating themselves to the 'Top of the Non-League Ladder' by achieving unparalleled success over those years to clearly make themselves one of Hereford's most successful sides.

Andy Morris, then a raw 16-year-old, along with his pals, Keith Scott, Dave Mathias, Roy Chandler and Dave Sockett, can all look back with pride at today's achievements, but Andy is the only one still involved with the club and is now its chief executive.

From 1966/67 days of friendlies, Westfields entered the Herefordshire Sunday League and in 1967/68 won their first trophy beating Danish Bacon in the Division Two League Cup Final of the Herefordshire Sunday League 4-0 in extra time on the Nicholson Fields.

Westfields spent 10 glorious years in the Herefordshire Sunday League, winning the Premier Division, the Wye Guild Cup and the League Cup on many occasions.

In 1973, the club joined the Worcester and District League and Clive Trenchard, the former England Youth International, took over as manager. Westfields then ran five teams with a side also in the Herefordshire League together with two Sunday League teams and one youth side.

In 1975, Westfields moved their ground from Widemarsh Common and the King George the Fifth playing fields to Thorn Lighting, Rotherwas headquarters where they slowly developed the ground over many years.

Three years later they left the Worcester and District League and joined the West Midland Regional League. The last 24 years have been quite the best in the history of the club and the silverware has continued to arrive.

In 1986/87, Westfields enjoyed their best ever season when they took the non-league scene by storm by reaching the fifth round of the FA Vase where they were eventually beaten by Vauxhall Motors of Luton after extra time.

They then consolidated their position in the West Midland League Premier Division and improved their facilities with floodlighting installed by landlords Thorn Lighting in 1988/89 season.

In recent years, Westfields have had a huge scare as their landlords sold the ground to an industrial developer, Collins Engineering. But, by good negotiations, Westfields have remained at the ground over the past four seasons and last summer carried out a large amount of work to keep their standards in line with the West Midland League Premier Division requirements.

This year, 2003, Westfields secured a 30-year lease on a new ground at Moor House, Widemarsh Common, Hereford in conjunction with the Hereford Sixth Form College. Westfields now should be in a position to move to their new ground, thanks to funding from the Football Foundation and the Beaumont Trust, in readiness for the new season in September 2003.

Westfields are jointly managed by Sean Edwards and Clive Harris who have improved the club's playing fortunes in the past four season when at one stage Westfields looked like losing the Premier Division status which they had held for 15 years.

Clive Harris and Sean Edwards have revitalised the playing standard and Westfields now run a team in the Midland Football Alliance and a Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier Division team. They also run an under-18 mid-week floodlit team, an under-16 team, under-14 team, under-12 team, under-10 and under-9 and provide soccer for a wide range of the Hereford community from their new ground at Moor House.

This wonderful involvement that they have at a youth, junior and now senior level has provided them with the basis to go forward with sharing the new facilities jointly with the Hereford Sixth Form College.

The season 2001/02 was among their best on record when Westfields beat Kington Town 3-1 at Edgar Street to win the HFA County Senior Challenge Cup. They then beat league champions Causeway United 1-0 to win the West Midland League Premier Division Cup to make it a truly memorable season.

Not to be outdone, in the 2002/03 season Westfields, again under the guidance of Sean Edwards and Clive Harris, went even better and did a league and county cup double, becoming the West Midland League Premier Division champions for the first time. They also retained the Herefordshire County Senior Challenge Cup with another win over arch rivals Kington Town.

Westfields now go forward into the Midland Football Alliance, their highest ever appearance in the non-league pyramid. With a new ground planned and hopefully available for September 2003, the club can look forward to many successful years having gained the 30-year lease with the Hereford Sixth Form College.

Westfields will continue to run a thriving junior and youth section and this year had the most memorable achievement of becoming the first senior Herefordshire Club to be awarded FA Charter Mark. The club's child protection officer and standards officer, David Borthwick, worked tirelessly to achieve this most notable achievement.
